Ankle and Foot Conditions #2

A. Douglas Spitalny, DPM

Ball and Socket Ankle

Ball and Socket Ankle joints are a simple deformity to diagnose if and only if ankle xrays are taken.  Too often foot xrays are taken because these patients present often with severe flatfeet and/or gross instability.

Many of these children and teenagers have not just one coalition but multiple which is why the ankle is forced to adapt leading the rounded ankle joint.
